      <image:caption>Functional Medicine Certified Health Coach Julie Rose, NBC-HWC I’m a mother of two, in the thick of it, trying to balance ALL the things while still wanting to exercise, eat well, get enough relaxation and sleep, and have time to invest in my relationships. After the birth of my second child in 2014, I experienced strange weight gain even though I was exercising and eating well, along with suffering brain fog, fatigue, and irritability. I felt lost trying to find the right answers to help me on my health journey and wasn’t sure where to begin. I tried different diets, various ways to exercise, and met with many MANY doctors and practitioners hoping to find the one thing that would work. At my wits end, I finally met with a Functional Medicine practitioner who ran a number of tests to look at my hormones, thyroid, and gut microbiome and that’s when the lightbulb went on! I needed to make lifestyle changes to help my health, including the way I was exercising, removing and adding certain foods, and focusing on stress reduction. How was I supposed to do all this while balancing work and motherhood? I felt overwhelmed, but step by step, day by day, I was able to take control of my health and began to feel better both mentally and physically. Does this sound like you too? It is hard to prioritize ourselves when so many rely on us as the backbone of our families and jobs. Trying to add “one more thing” to the list in order to focus on our health and well-being might be the straw that breaks the camel’s back, so what do we do?? We can find time by reorganizing our current schedule and lives to take tiny steps toward better health. I know! It doesn’t seem possible, but I’m here to help as an accountability partner that understands that change is difficult. I like to use this analogy: If I gave you a bucket and asked you to fill it with water, you could do it two different ways. The first is to turn the hose on full-blast and fill the bucket quickly, with water spilling over the top. Another way to fill that same bucket is to allow the faucet to drip. It will take longer, but the bucket will fill to the top, drip by drip, without spilling as you know when to turn off the water. This is exactly how we’ll begin to make changes together. Creating small and steady goals each week and achieving them will bring forth the lasting change you’re craving. And the best part? We celebrate your new habits!
